Writer Carl Hiaasen to Keynote PLA's President's Program at ALA Annual Conference

Carl Hiaasen, award-winning columnist for The Miami Herald will be the keynote speaker at the PLA President's Program, which will be held on Monday, June 28, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Orange County Convention Center, Auditorium - Room 320, during the 2004 ALA Annual Conference. This event also is part of the ALA Auditorium Speaker Series.

In addition to his column with the Miami Herald, Hiaasen also is a best-selling novelist. His first novel, "Tourist Season" was named one of the ten best destination reads of all time by GQ Magazine. He is the author of eight other bestselling novels, "Double Whammy," "Skin Tight," "Native Tongue," "Strip Tease," "Stormy Weather," "Lucky You," "Sick Puppy," "Basket Case," and "HOOT," a Newbery-award winning book for young readers. Hiaasen also is the author of "Team Rodent," an essay about the Disney empire and two collections of newspaper columns.  For more information about the author, visit Carl Hiaasen's web page.

Prior to Hiaasen’s talk, the PLA service awards will be distributed and the program will be followed by a music filled reception. The reception will be held from 6:45 – 8:00 p.m. at the Peabody Hotel International Ballroom.
