
ALTA Committee Charges

Action Development Committee
Charge: 1) To serve the Board of Directors in an advisory capacity by reviewing ALTA's organization and activities. 2) To generate ideas. 3) To study the feasibility of activities and make recommendations to the Board for carrying them out. 4) Upon the direction of the Board, to undertake special assignments which do not fall within the scope of existing committees.
Advocacy Committee
Charge: 1) To identify and encourage library advocates. 2) Develop and provide info to support library advocacy. 3) To identify current and emerging advacacy issues. 4) To provide ongoing education about advocacy issues. 5) To create strategic alliances with other organizations promoting library advocacy.
Awards Committee
Charge: 1)To stimulate nominations from America’s library boards of directors and libraries by news releases, direct mailings, announcements at meetings and other appropriate means by September 15 for December 1 deadline. 2) To evaluate nominations and select worthy recipients for citations. 3) To assist local libraries in publicizing the awarding of the citations. 4) To annually review the nomination process, publicity program and nomination forms. 5) To serve as hosts during the Annual Conference to award recipients who are first-time
attendees and/or who are not actively involved in ALTA activities.
Conference Program & Evaluation Committee
Charge:1)To review, coordinate and schedule all programs and events planned or conceived by ALTA committees or officers; evaluate the response to programs and solicit suggestions for future programs; and to form suggestions for future committees.
Education Of Trustees Committee
Charge: To identify and coordinate programs for the development and education of trustees. This will include program review, speakers, written and special material and cooperation with other groups and/or organizations in promoting and producing these educational seminars.
Intellectual Freedom Committee
Charge: To support the First Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution and the ALA Library Bill of Rights.
Jury On Trustee Citations
Charge: To annually select two outstanding trustees for distinguished service to library development whether on the local, state or national level, and to administer the citations.
Legislation Committee
Charge: To represent the interests of the ALTA division while maintaining liaison with the ALA Legislation Committee and with other appropriated groups having similar goals.
Local Arrangements Committee
Charge: To plan and carry out Midwinter Fundraiser, ALTA’s Gala and President’s Reception at the Annual Conference.
Membership Committee
Charge: To promote membership in ALA/ALTA. To develop a database of potential customers for ALTA membership, publications, and programs. These customers are trustees, library advocates, and library professionals (directors, librarians, etc).
Nominating Committee
Charge: To nominate a slate of candidates for ALTA elections.
President’s Program Committee
Charge: To plan with the First Vice President/President-Elect ways in which the ALA President’s theme can be carried out in ALTA’s Annual Conference program. To plan with the ALTA First Vice President the ALTA President’s Program.
Publications Committee
Charge: To address all publishing concerns, future and existing, of the ALTA division.
Specialized Outreach Services Committee
Charge: To focus on the needs of those who, because of physical or mental handicaps, are not being served or are undeserved.
