Friday, June 25

Preconference – Drawn to Delight: How Picturebooks Work (and Play) Today | 7:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. (reception to follow ending at 6:30 p.m.)
Learn to better utilize picturebooks in your library's programming by seeing these books through the eyes of the people who create them!  Art directors, museum educators, and award-winning illustrators will take you through the creative and collaborative journey of picturebook development during this Friday, June 25, event at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  Studio demonstrations, hands-on opportunities and original art door prizes are just a few of the elements that await participants.  More Information

Newbery Caldecott Wilder Banquet | 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Join us for this gala to celebrate the Newbery and Caldecott Medalists and Honorees, authors and illustrators of the year’s most distinguished books for children. Cocktails (cash bar) available prior to dinner; doors open at 6:45 p.m. No tickets will be available at the door.   Limited Individual Tickets Available – Register Now!  Reserved table seating is now closed.

Monday, June 28

ALSC Charlemae Rollins President's Program featuring Dr. Patricia K. Kuhl | 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Dr. Patricia K. Kuhl will discuss her research and findings on infants’ early language and later reading skills, teaching librarians how they can best help families with literacy.  Dr. Kuhl has spoken at the White House, appeared on various Discovery, NOVA and PBS television series and been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, and in The New York Times, Time, and Newsweek.

ALSC Awards Presentation and Membership Meeting | 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Join your colleagues for the annual presentation for the Batchelder, Carnegie, Geisel and Sibert Awards.  The ALSC Membership Meeting will immediately follow.

Odyssey Award Presentation & Program | 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Celebrate the spoken word at the 2010 Odyssey Award Presentation, featuring the 2010 Odyssey winner, Louise, the Adventures of a Chicken, written by Kate DiCamillo, narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, and produced by Live Oak Media.  Three honor titles will also be recognized for their excellence in audiobook production for children and young adults.   A reception sponsored by the Audio Publishers Association with light refreshments will follow the award presentations and program.

7th Annual Poetry Blast | 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Poetry should be heard and not just seen.  Poetry Blast celebrates the wonder and excitement of this aural tradition, featuring contemporary North American poetry for children by poets both new and established. The audience will find this enlightening and energizing event a perfect way to end a conference day. Ten to twelve poets will read. Hosted by Barbara A. Genco and Poet/Writer Marilyn Singer. Library Advocacy Day | 11:00 a.m.
The ALA Washington Office will host Library Advocacy Day featuring a rally on the U.S. Capitol grounds in Washington, D.C. This one-time opportunity during ALA Annual Conference is a chance for library supporters to join together to demonstrate support for libraries and for first-time advocates to get involved.  More Information
