Many educators are involved in educational reform efforts that will change the school culture and improve instructional program. A result of these efforts has been the development of a new educational "jargon." Learning the new terminology should be an important component in the professional development process. This article includes a list of terms and is still evolving--a work in progress. The definitions represent an attempt to understand and embrace the language of school reform. The list of terms is selective and represents interpretations as we have heard them in use and researched them. Understanding these terms might serve to influence the change process in schools that are thinking about or actually engaged in systemic reform initiatives.
