Events

National Library Week - First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

Library Card Sign-up Month - September is Library Card Sign-Up Month - a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind parents that the most important school supply of all is @ your library®--it's your library card.

Initiatives & Projects

The Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times "I Love my Librarian" Award - The winners of the Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award will be announced shortly.

Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant - The winner of the Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week grant will be announced a the ALA Midwinter Meeting in January. Thank you to everyone that submitted an application.

Step Up to the Plate @ your library -  Developed by the American Library Association and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Step Up to the Plate @ your library teams up two American classics – baseball and libraries – to promote the importance of information literacy skills and increase awareness of the library as an essential information resource.

Campaign for the World's Libraries - Is a public education initiative for the international library community called The Campaign for the World's Libraries co-sponsored by the American Library Association and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. Based on the U.S. program, The Campaign for the Worl's Libraries is designed to showcase public, school, academic, government and special libraries across the globe.

ACRL Academic & Research Library Campaign - Created by the Association of College and Research Libraries' (ACRL) @ your library Task Force to provide academic and research libraries with key messages, ideas and strategies for promoting the value of their libraries and librarians.

ALSC Kids! Campaign - Created by the Association for Library Service to Children's (ALSC) Public Awareness Committee the goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of free resources available for children and families and to encourage all parents to bring their school-age children to the public library.

AASL School Library Campaign - Created by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) to provide school library media specialists with a national campaign to support them in delivering a strong and clear message about the value of school libraries and library media specialists.

YALSA's @ your library campaign - Created by the Young Adult Library Services Association's (YALSA) Advocacy Task Force the national campaign was designed to educate and inform the general public about the vital role libraries and librarians play in youth development and teen literacy, while providing YALSA members with tools and resources to do the same in their communities.

Popular Resources

PR Tools and Resources - Contains ready made public relations materials so that libraries of all types can promote themselves locally. Materials include toolkits developed by ALA Divisions, print, radio and television public service announcements (PSAs) and suggestions of how to use the @ your library brand to promote you library and library services.
